The Decoy function allows craft to create duplicates on themselves. These copies lack any abilities of the original (can't fire weapons, can't use special abilities like Carry or Refuel), but they can be used to artificially inflate a commander's fleet size in missions.
Decoys can also serve as improvised scouts that can be sent forward to discover enemy units or distract them from attacking regular craft. Also, decoy units can be detonated, dealing massive damage to all units in range including allies.
This technology was first developed in the Decoy Wave Cannon, which uses Wave Cannon energy to produce energetic decoy copies of the host ship, which then expend their energy to fire Standard Wave Cannon Prototype shots.
